Redick and Morrison Suck, Will Have A Ring

Here’s just a little food for thought. No matter which team wins the NBA Finals this year (nice work boys, keep it up) a player whose career has become a joke will win a title. Either Adam Morrison or J.J. Redick will walk away from this series with a ring. That’s got to killĀ  hundreds of NBA greats to come before them.

When the Magic and Lakers are done dueling, Morrison or Redick will have one more ring than LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, Dirk Nowitzki, Chris Paul, Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, Jason Kidd and Steve Nash combined.

Does that drive anyone else crazy? Regardless of what you think of the players listed, they’ve certainly worked their asses off in the NBA and none of them have a title to show for it.

Want some more guys who couldn’t score a title but whose careers make Morrison and Redick look like D-League role players?

How about:
Karl Malone
John Stockton
Charles Barkley
Patrick Ewing
Reggie Miller
Dominique Wilkins
Pete Maravich
Elgin Baylor
George Gervin

Frankly, I’m sure Malone is good for a double-double right now. How awful do you think he feels sitting on his couch watching this series? And there’s no doubt in my mind that Reggie Miller would be a huge upgrade over Redick right now.

So, Adam, J.J., good luck, enjoy getting that ring you did nothing to earn.

  2. If the magic somehow pull it out (i’m a fan) i can say JJ did a fair share. Although they have lost the first two in the series, look at Kobe’s numbers against Redick. The black mamba may have very well met the albino mongoose.

  3. Role players such as Redick (who as Nick points out, has actually played pretty well) and bench warmers/trade detritus (Morrison) win rings every year. Last year there was Gabe Pruitt, plus Scot Pollard; in ’07 see Jackie Butler and James White, and check out how much Earl Barron and Matt Walsh contributed in ’06. Since basketball’s a team sport though, we can only assume these guys did their jobs as well as anyone in the league, as their teams won, and therefore deserve their rings. While Malone & Miller were obviously better than all these guys, their job was to be option #1, which they didn’t do as well as the guys on the teams that beat them in the finals (namely, Jordan & O’Neal).

  4. Nick and Ben I totally understand what you mean. Even Mark Madsen has a couple of rings. My point is that it has to kill all those greats that never got a ring. Karl Malone basically killed himself for about 20 years on and off the court in pursuit of a title and never got one.

  5. Robert Horry has seven rings. Tommy Heinsohn has ten. Jerry West lost in seven NBA Finals and Elgin Bayloe never got a ring. It’s just the way it goes.
