Last night gymnast Shawn Johnson won “Dancing With the Stars.” Apparently the diminutive gold-medal winner was an underdog to some dude who is “famous” for being naked in the “Sex and the City” movie. I guess they’re using the “Stars” part of the show’s title fairly loosely. I’ve seen exactly one episode of “Dancing With the Stars” and it might have been the most uncomfortable hour of my life.
I was advised to check it out to see if I thought it was creepy that they were sexing up a 17-year-old on national television. I wrote about just that the next day. Then this happened. I wrote about that too.
So Johnson had a stalker with incredibly creepy intentions arrested on the show’s lot, yet she managed to stick with the show? Yeah I’d say she deserved to win it.
The Academy Awards are often referred to as the Gay Super Bowl. If that’s true then the finales of “Dancing With the Stars” and “American Idol” are the Gay World Series and the Gay Final Four.
What I think is hilarious about this is that Johnson won, which might be like the 15th most interesting thing that’s happened to her. She’s an Olympic champion gymnast, a former world all-around champion and the aforementioned stalker episode. The two other finalists were Melissa Rycroft – who was picked, then rejected on “The Bachelor” – and Gilles Marini who is known for going full-frontal in a movie about a bunch of cackling, past-their-prime chicks. Obviously this had to have meant way more to their careers.
Well, congrats to Johnson and her partner Mark Ballas. They won a competition best known for former NFL competitors, Julianne Hough’s hotness and bringing a stalker across the country in an attempt to kidnap a 17-year-old. Awesome.
