Perhaps Indiana Can Still Make this Game Watchable

Today could be a nightmare.

Usually there are few things better for the writers of this blog than a little Indiana-Purdue rivalry, especially this time of year. That’s because basketball season is the time where Hoosiers get revenge for a normally embarrassing football loss.

Not so this year.

Since Kelvin Sampson pillaged and burned the Indiana program before getting the gate, it’s been a pretty damn rough year. There’s the matter of most losses in program history and that lone Big Ten win.

Meanwhile Purdue is pretty good at basketball again, and that’s good for them, it spices up the rivalry.

But it’s going to make today’s game at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette pretty brutal. Maybe.

We’re going on the record with this: Indiana will give them a game at least for a little while, and might even surprise some people by keeping it close the whole way if Robbie Hummel doesn’t play because of a stress fracture in his lower back.

This game is IU’s Super Bowl. If it wins only this single game for the rest of the year, it will be a job well done for Tom Crean.

All we can say is give ’em hell boys. The last thing we need is a bunch of bragging Purdue fans. That’s always annoying.

  5. I’d love to see the PU/IU rivalry back to where it was in the 80’s and 90’s. I believe Painter and Crean can add the luster back to the matchup… PU hasnt under acheived, Hummel has had a broken back all year and I’ll be the first to admit the loss of Scott Martin is def hurting. Still, if Hummel can be semi effective down the stretch PU has the chance to make sweet 16 or better…
Next year, add in the Byrdman and a healthy Hummel along with Johnson and Jacksons continued growth and you have a legit contender…

  6. Actually… considering Purdues best player and preseason BIG10 POTY has been out or playing at 50% the majority of the season I’d say having a shot at the BigTen title is pretty impressive. See in a couple years Hoosiers… maybe
