Fascism & communism are two sides of the same coin. Dictatorship, repression, totalitarianism and mass murder are the hallmarks of both. You can call Stalin a fascist or a communist. Or you can call him one of the worst tyrants who ever lived and probably killed as many as Hitler and not quite as many as Mao. Football and other sports have always been used by tyrants to make themselves popular with the people. It is not the fault of the present Real fans that Franco did this, but it is their fault that they behave like a sick joke.

In the post I refer to “Stalinist purges” as being fascist and Daniel pointed out that Stalin wasn’t a fascist, he was a communist. Well, not exactly. In fact, much of Stalin’s rule had all the hallmarks of Fascism, despite the fact that he was, technically, a communist. That’s what I was referring to. For the record, here’s a partial definition of fascism:

“Fascist governments typically seek to prepare a nation for armed conflict with other nations, to defend itself or to expand its state to allow for the growth of a nation. Fascists aim to create a single-party state in which the government is led by a dictator who seeks unity by requiring individuals to subordinate self-interest to the collective interest of the nation or a race.”

That’s pretty much exactly what Stalin did, communist or not. And Stalin once referred to fascism and social democracy as “twin brothers.” So yeah, calling him a fascist isn’t that far off.

Stalin was a communist, a dictator, a murderer, and an authoritarian. But he was not a fascist. Evil fascists are the right-wing equivalent of evil communists: Both evil, but otherwise opposites.

Also: What a bunch of awesome guys! I wonder if they seig heil while they’re giving each other rim jobs.
