OK, This Is Getting Ridiculous
January 21, 2009 – 8:46 am by Ryan PhillipsWe’ve had several reports on how Spanish athletes and fans are racist, crazy, stupid, or all of the above, but this is getting out of hand. Yesterday, Spanish soccer giant Real Madrid was fined because of the way its fans treated a referee.
“Real Madrid have been fined 3,000 euros ($3,900) by the Spanish football federation (RFEF) after a group of their fans were reported by a referee for making what he termed fascist gestures and chanting fascist slogans.”
Referee Alfonso Perez Burrull reported that the fans were waving flags and banners with “extremist or radical symbolism” during Sunday’s home game against Osasuna. Real has had problems in the post with a group of radical fans known as the “Ultras Sur.” The group has previously been punished for breaching rules aimed at preventing xenophobia and intolerance.
First of all, what exactly is a fascist slogan? Are we talking like, “If Stalinist purges are wrong I don’t want to be right!” or, “The Gestapo, just think of it as a very personal Neighborhood Watch group!” What about, “Social revolution, half the bloodshed, twice the paranoia!”
Second, what the hell is wrong with Spanish people? Seriously.

Scroll down to News in Brief and you’ll see what fascist chants are made of.

hilarious. just hit up wikipedia people. all you have to do is a little reading about the history of real madrid as a team. then youll know exactly why this type of behaviour is in their fans. their entire organization was built on fascism. it was owned and created entirely by fascist movements. yet another reason to side with Barcelona.

Perhaps Chevy Chase overstated things when he said “This just in: General Franco is still dead.” Or whatever it is he said.

Yeah, dude…Wikipedia, nothing but truth there. To be fair, Madrid was supported by the fascists and used as a political tool to garner support for the fascist cause. However, to say Madrid (established 1902) was created by the fascist movement is not just incorrect but historically ignorant. The saddest part of this story is that Madrid were fined a pittance: 3,000euros? Another joke of a fine from the Spanish FA. Glad to see they’re serious about tackling this problem. At least the Spanish FA are serious about racism: they fine 9000euros for monkey chants…

Stalin was a communist, a dictator, a murderer, and an authoritarian. But he was not a fascist. Evil fascists are the right-wing equivalent of evil communists: Both evil, but otherwise opposites.
Also: What a bunch of awesome guys! I wonder if they seig heil while they’re giving each other rim jobs.

Leave it to the Democrats to let the Spaniards back in the pantry.

While Stalin wasn’t technically a fascist, he adopted many of the leadership qualities of the fascist dictators of the time.

Is that really a better question?

Thank you ‘Phillips’ this is without question the funniest thing I have ever read. Will you follow this up with gems like “technically the pope isn’t jewish”

Paul,
In the post I refer to “Stalinist purges” as being fascist and Daniel pointed out that Stalin wasn’t a fascist, he was a communist. Well, not exactly. In fact, much of Stalin’s rule had all the hallmarks of Fascism, despite the fact that he was, technically, a communist. That’s what I was referring to. For the record, here’s a partial definition of fascism:
“Fascist governments typically seek to prepare a nation for armed conflict with other nations, to defend itself or to expand its state to allow for the growth of a nation. Fascists aim to create a single-party state in which the government is led by a dictator who seeks unity by requiring individuals to subordinate self-interest to the collective interest of the nation or a race.”
That’s pretty much exactly what Stalin did, communist or not. And Stalin once referred to fascism and social democracy as “twin brothers.” So yeah, calling him a fascist isn’t that far off.

Fascism & communism are two sides of the same coin. Dictatorship, repression, totalitarianism and mass murder are the hallmarks of both. You can call Stalin a fascist or a communist. Or you can call him one of the worst tyrants who ever lived and probably killed as many as Hitler and not quite as many as Mao. Football and other sports have always been used by tyrants to make themselves popular with the people. It is not the fault of the present Real fans that Franco did this, but it is their fault that they behave like a sick joke.
