Ice, Stitches Bring Bowling Retiree Back to Earth

From what I understand, it’s not very much fun to get old. There’s all kind of health-related issues that I, as a young person, don’t even want to think about. In a word: prostate.

That said, I can only hope that when I’m 87 years old I’m half the man Dale Van Blair is.

Van Blair (pictured at right), a retiree from Belleville, Ill., rolled a perfect 300 game and a 737 series Monday at Bel-Air Bowl in Belleville with his 15-pound ball.  He bowls on four different nights at two different alleys and tossed his last 300 game at the relatively young age of 83.

And just one day after his latest perfect game, Van Blair found himself in the hospital after a spill on some ice. He cut open the thumb on his bowling hand, requiring seven stitches. Oh, the cruelty of it all.

Turns out Van Blair is just like any other old guy when it comes to shaky balance.

But, hey, we’re here to salute you, Dale Van Blair. You are one hell of an 87-year old. Get right back out there and fight the good fight when those stitches are out.
