Going 5-hole: Foppa is Making One Last Comeback Attempt

January 22, 2009 – 12:24 am by admin

Well it took a little bit but I’m back with your weekly nugget from the NHL. Seriously, the day job just slows down the blogging process. Damn the man.

Anyway, word on the street, and by word on the street I mean multiple news outlets and ESPN.com’s Rumor Central section (Insiders only!), has it that centerman Peter Forsberg has begun training in his native Sweden for his last attempt at an NHL comeback.

Forsberg, who is actually not that old at age 35 and has an awesome nickname — Foppa, has a bad right foot that’s required multiple surgeries, the last of which came a couple months ago.

As it is, the foot remains a question mark: Unless it’s truly healthy Forsberg doesn’t stand a chance of setting foot on NHL ice again.

Oh, and one other thing, he only wants to play for the Avalanche if he comes back. Makes sense. One would think the Avs would have him if he’s healthy. It’s not usually good business to turn away former NHL scoring champions.

In what little time he played last year (again he had a lot of injury problems), Forsberg was really productive, scoring 14 points in just nine games. So, it looks like he can still do his thing.

And hey, if Claude Lemieux (he’s 43-years old for God’s sake!) and Brendan Shanahan can still lace up the skates then so can Foppa.

So, best of luck, Foppa. Nobody likes to see injuries keep a good man down.
