Let’s Be the Judge and Jury for this Idiot

You may remember this little nugget of news from over the summer. Cubs pitching prospect Julio Castillo got a little riled up as his Peoria Chiefs and the Dayton Dragons engaged in a pretty serious brawl in heated Midwest League action.

What you can see in the video is Castillo winding up and firing a ball toward the Dayton dugout. Instead of finding its intended target, it wound up in the stands and hit an adult fan. The fan went to the hospital and was treated for a concussion as a result.

With that kind of control, Castillo probably wasn’t going to find his way to the big leagues anyway.

But that’s neither here nor there. Castillo was arrested at the time and last month a Dayton grand jury indicted him on two counts of felony assault.

A trial date has yet to be set. In the mean time it’s stirred up quite a bit of controversy between the two fan bases, if there is such a thing, and people in general. Opinions range from give Castillo the harshest penalty allowable and it was stupid but he shouldn’t be jailed.

So, since this is a democracy, let’s put it to a vote. What do you think should happen to this clown? Debate.

  2. Well, clearly it wasn’t a strike. So that’s one knock against him. Therefore, I move to my next question: was the guy he hit an asshole? If so, he gets off scot-free. If the victim was a decent guy, then throw the book at Castillo. Just have better aim than he did.
