Last weekend when Martinez drove from Chicago to South Bend to attend the ND-Stanford game and watch his nephew, Eric Maust, punt for the Irish, $180 was stolen out of his wallet after he left it on the seat of his rental car in the driveway of a friend’s house in a nearby town.
Turns out the thief left everything but the cash and tossed the wallet in a neighbor’s yard.
You’d think as an elected official you’d be smart enough to, ya know, take your wallet with you to the game. How else are you gonna enjoy a hot dog or beer? We’d tend to call this a pretty foolish mistake. Seriously, c’mon.
Eh, either way we gotta hand it to the crooks for their know-how. Apparently they target out-of-town vehicles during the games while nobody is paying attention. Verrrry clever.
A year ago when Notre Dame wasn’t winning any games this scheme wouldn’t have been so easy to pull off.
