How about we applaud a coach going for it on fourth down and injecting a little excitement into the avoid risk at all costs approach. Johnson is a winner, and whoever wrote this is indeed a moron.

Looks like I’m a little late to the party, folks. The “Wishbone” part of the post was meant as an overstatement. A little literary device for you to make my point that the option is archaic.

It’s all in good fun. Paul Johnson is, in fact, a fantastic football coach. I’ve watched his offense do it’s thing both on TV multiple times and in person. I know what it is.

I just don’t ever agree with high minded football coaches calling people doing their jobs “morons” just because he doesn’t like that they questioned one of his decisions.

Nothing wrong with a little pi$$ ‘n vinegar out of an old salty coach. If this was Spurrier everyone would be kissing the Ole Ball Coach’s crusty visor. Money’s definitely on the Jackets finishing with a better record than a terrible Cocks team.

I’ve got no problem with Johnson going off on the two minor leaguers that were covering the game–i think most guys watching the non-highlighted 3:30 ABC game agree that we’re not quite getting Kirk & Brent or Verne & Gary–at least it wasnt Pam Ward.

I must concur with “xeno”.
While GT may not win the crystal ball with the “flex-bone”…
(If you want to make fun of his coaching, while looking credible as a football expert, don’t make assinine statements like calling what he does the “wishbone”)
…he will win lots of games, and make d-coord’s lose LOTS of sleep in the process. Navy beat other goods teams (in and out of bowls) not just ND.

Today’s spread O’s have breed faster, blitz-happy schemes. Those “faster” (not always disciplined) players fail to master the kind of responsibility-driven scheme necessary to stop the option.

Yes, it might effect recruiting (not more than their already tougher academic standards). the biggest knock is that he’d better have agood #2 QB, cuz his is getting rocked every play.

Maybe he was referring to you. You go ask any defensive coordinator if they want to play the option. That’s why almost every team on the GT schedule has practiced against the option offense at some point during the summer because it is very hard to defend. It’s not run any more because people love to see the pass.

Running the “Wishbone”? I guess even if it was actually the “Wishbone”, Jim Tressel still sees this offense in his nightmares (along with any team associated with the SEC or southern california).
