Mendenhall, who was drafted 23rd overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers, injured his hamstring on the first day of rookie minicamp last week and missed the duration.
Then, after returning to his native Chicago before the Steelers resume camps in a couple weeks, he was robbed at gunpoint while strolling along the shores of Lake Michigan near Lake Shore Drive.
The criminal in question made away with his (presumably heavier) wallet and his cell phone, but Mendenhall was unhurt. We’re not fans of being forcibly robbed with a gun, so it’s good to hear that Mendenhall has come away from the incident relatively unscathed.
But man, what a crappy way to start your NFL career. First, you get hurt during your initial camp, then you’re robbed at gunpoint. Hopefully it’s not some kind of foreboding omen for the rest of his career.
