Well THANK GOD. According to this here story on ESPN.com Big Brown is going to be just fine for the Belmont Stakes. So, we can still assume the first Triple Crown winner in 30 years is forthcoming, right?
I mean, a crack in a hoof doesn’t sound like that big a deal. The injury is apparently “common and not serious.”
The problem for me is this: There are also injuries in horse racing that are both common and lead to horses being destined for the Elmer’s factory rather than the winner’s circle. I’m not saying Big Brown is going to be a heap of useless thoroughbred any time soon. As a matter of fact, I hope he wins at Belmont.
I’m just saying any injury to horses this fragile should be taken seriously. But hey, I don’t really know anything about horse racing. I’m sure he’ll be fine.
