Kelvin Sampson and Scott Skiles: Match Made in Heaven?

We here at Rumors and Rants are partial to Indiana University for obvious reasons. That bastion of higher learning gave all of us many good times. Especially if you exclude almost all of the Hoosier basketball teams we were force-fed in our tenure.

Man, they were some lean years. Some lean fucking years. And when the weren’t lean, it was because the coach cheated. Sweet. Thanks, Kelvin Sampson.

In that spirit, I bring you the latest in the tale of the cell phone abusing coach. It looks like he’s at the top of Scott Skiles’ list of potential assistants with the Milwaukee Bucks.

The good news: He can call his players as much as he wants!

The bad news: If he drops the f-bomb on an NBA player they might do it back. Or choke him. I’m just saying. Better ease up on the whole control freak thing, Kelv. Especially since your boss is as big a control freak as there is in the NBA right now.

Remember, Larry Brown isn’t active, folks.

But in all honesty, it’s a relatively soft landing for Sampson. He can lay low as an NBA assistant for awhile, still make good coin and eventually score a low-level college job if he so chooses. Maybe he’ll just stay in the Association. I wouldn’t be surprised.

In the land of second chances, he’ll surely get another one in college. He’s a proven winner, whether he’s cheated along the way or not. Guys like him always rebound (pun!).

Now, for the real question. Will Sampson wear the blue shirt, red tie, black pants combination for all 82 games next season?

  2. This one reeks of irony. Sampson will be an assistant at the Bradley Center, where Tom Crean coach Marquette and still would be coaching Marquette if it weren’t for Sampson. So is a cheesehead to love him or hate him?
