Rory Sabbatini officially called down the thunder on Thursday afternoon and retribution should be swift and very painful. Now I know the question you’re all asking: “Who the F is Rory Sabbatini?”
He’s a 5’10, 160-pound South African golfer who had a nice round today – a 5-under 67 – and shares the lead at The Players Championship with Phil Mickelson. Drunk with confidence (and possibly malt liquor), he then tossed out this bomb concerning Tiger Woods : “I think he’s more beatable than ever.” Oh Rory, what have you done?
Apparently he called out Woods in a similar fashion last week, only to have Tiger smoke him like a day old Cuban cigar. Woods has had a tough start at TPC Sawgrass, as he started with a 3-over 75. It was his first round without a birdie since the opening round of the 2003 Masters. Yeah it was a rough day for Eldrick, but still, you don’t ask Tiger to whip your ass, you keep your head down and pray it doesn’t happen.
McD made a good point when discussing this story. There is a reason why no one has heard of Rory Sabbatini while Tiger Woods is probably the greatest golfer ever: you don’t beat other players, you beat the course. The more the the diminutive guy with the goofy accent keeps focusing on how everyone else is doing, the less he’ll actually succeed.
Oh and just for fun: Sabbatini is currently ranked 12th on the PGA money list, and has nine Top 10’s and one win since the beginning of 2006. Tiger is currently first on the money list, has 16 top 10’s and 11 wins (including 2 majors) over the same time frame. Both golfers are 31-years-old. Yep Rory, you’re having no trouble besting the imminently beatable Tiger Woods, none at all.
