When you are the callenger you need to score a convincing win to walk away with the belt. Floyd did not do that, he ran like a little girl the whole fight. At worst Oscar should have gotten a draw.

After the 8th round, I (and pretty much everyone else in the room watching the fight) had the fight scored even. Mayweather won the last 4 rounds evenly, although there were some in the room that gave the 12th round to Oscar.

That being said, let us not forget that Floyd weighed in at 150lbs (and admitted he was 148lbs the night of the fight); while De La Hoya weighed in at 154lbs (while there was no "unofficial" weight available, he appeared to be well over 160lbs) - of course Oscar's punches would appear harder. Outside of his disappearing jab, most of Oscar's punches were being blocked by arms and elbows (or being rendered ineffective due to Mayweather's masterful shoulder rolling).

Let me say it again, I thought Mayweather won the fight, maybe my post doesn't indicate that as well as it should. I was just disappointed with the way he won, and thought Oscar deserved credit for actually making it a fight, rather than a circling match. And I think Floyd landed the cleaner shots, but I would contend that they weren't harder. DLH never seemed phased and never looked like he was in trouble at all. And this is coming from someone who has never been a big De La Hoya fan.

Oscar landed less punches and at a lesser percentage. The only rationale for a de la Hoya victory was that he instigated the action. Under that rationale I think the south would like a recount on Gettysburg.
