According to the Boston Herald, the Celtics are prepared to offer head coach Doc Rivers a contract extension after the season. The coach has one year remaining on his contract and has campaigned for an extension, be cause he wants to avoid a lame duck situation.
The Celtics currently have the second-worst record in the NBA at 23-53. A lot of people probably think this is a bad decision, but can you really blame Doc Rivers for the Celtics’ woes? They have such an awful roster, Red Auerbach couldn’t have done much better.
The real blame for how awful the Celtics are should go to Danny Ainge. I don’t understand why no one calls out the horrible job this guy is doing. He’s taking one of the most legendary franchises in sports history and driving it right into the ground. The sports world crucified Isiah Thomas for his awful management of the Knicks, but somehow Ainge has skated so far.
Other than Al Jefferson and Gerald Green, is there anyone on that roster you’d trade for? After Paul Pierce’s latest outburst, I’d avoid him at all costs. Their rotation includes Wally Szczerbiak, Sebastian Telfair, Tony Allen, Ryan Gomes and Michael Olowokandi. All phenomenal talents. Then throw in Rajon Rondo, Brian Scalabrine and Theo Ratliff, and you’ve got an absolute peach of a roster.
Szczerbiak is making $11.7 million for 15 points and 3 rebounds a game and Ratliff is pulling in $11.6 million and has only played in two games this season. Great pickups Danny. Since Ainge took over in 2003, the Celtics have gone 36-46, 45-37, 33-49 and now 23-53. That’s a grand total of 137-185, and they haven’t won a playoff series. Nice.
This would be like Paul O’Neill taking over for Brian Cashman and driving the Yankees into the ditch. He’d be run out of town in two seconds, why is Ainge getting a pass? Someone please explain this to me, I’m willing to listen.
