Carmelo Now A Baby-Daddy

March 8, 2007 – 2:27 am by Ryan Phillips

Carmelo Anthony and fiance, former MTVveejay La La Vazquez, had their first child Wednesday afternoon, a son named Kiyan (pronounced kai-ann). Melo stayed in Denver rather than make the trip to play in the Nuggets 110-96 loss to Golden State.

That was probably better for everybody involved, as the A.I.-Carmelo roadshow has produced mixed results. Plus, now that George Karl has been jumping on Anthony’s case, maybe the kid needed a day off. Karl blasted Anthony in The Denver Post, saying he was considering benching Anthony. “I think that’s the next move,” he said. “I’ve told Melo in the past two weeks, ‘I don’t think you’re listening. I don’t think you’re listening as well as you need to listen.’ For me, the next step is to change the democracy back to a dictatorship.”

It’s been a rough string of events for Carmelo’s image. Over the past few years he’s had “a friend’s” marijuana found in his car, been caught with pot in his backpack at the Denver airport, thrown a ball into the stands, injuring a young girl, been an advocate for the killing of “snitches” in a video, and taken a cheap shot at a restrained Mardy Collins during the semi-infamous Nuggets-Knicks brawl.

Maybe becoming a dad is the thing Carmelo needs to straighten him out. Let’s just all pray that little Kiyan doesn’t grow up to be a snitch.
