Steven Hunter is a 7-foot forward/center for the 76ers. He’s also a former first round pick out of DePaul, a Chicago native, a die-hard Bears fan and a hater of Grossman.
According to the Bucks County Courier Times, Hunter when asked whether or not he would ever break out his Rex Grossman Bears jersey he had this to say, “I’m not ever wearing that jersey again.”
He went on to analyze what the Bears should have done during their 29-17 Super Bowl loss to the Colts. “He could’ve proved a lot of people wrong. I think we should’ve put (backup QB) Brian Griese in. We need to put him (Grossman) and Steve Bartman away.”
When told that Jeff Garcia was a free agent, Hunter said, “Let’s go get ‘em. I’d love to have Jeff Garcia.” Then he paused before saying, “How about this? You keep Jeff Garcia – we’ll take (Chicago native Donovan) McNabb.”
76ers coach Maurice Cheeks also grew up in Chicago and he agreed with Hunter’s statements. He called the game disappointing, then said, “I really thought he was throwing it out of bounds and then I realized it was a touchdown,” in reference to Grossman’s 4th quarter interception that was returned for a touchdown.
